ARCHITECTURE AND INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
Fire-Forming concentrates on the experimental process of forming snow with the influence of fire and air.
By the use of a narrow tunnel a heat source is placed in the centre of a 3x3x3m snow cube. Pipes with a diameter of 5cm are buried vertically within the cube to create chimney-like openings. Through the capping of these holes it is possible to direct the heat and create the desired form.
The user will enter the structure while lying on his back. The snow formation is only visible on the inside. A variety of differently formed chimneys merge into one big room that allows the visitor to stay for a while and take a look at the surroundings. The hidden interior is only accesible after an intial overcoming to enter through the small and dark entrance.
The contrast of the edgy and linear outside versus the soft and organic looking inside invites the user to stay and explore.
